Little Foodie favourites : Best cake in Leeds

As the nights draw in, and we are finally relent and pop on the heating – it’s the perfect season for meeting with friends, getting cosy and nibbling some of the best cake in Leeds. With this in mind, we’ve been exploring our favourites… (it’s a hard life)

Mrs Atha’s

This coffee and cake stop has literally everything you’d want; the owners have spent a lot of time making sure that this place not only looks great (think distressed walls, an assortment of modern and vintage art, pretty teacups and battered leather seats) they’ve also put some real effort into making sure that the cake, food and hot drinks are second to none.

On any given day you can drop in to Mrs Atha’s and have a rich chocolate brownie or chunky (Leeds sized) portion of cake. With a selection of teas and coffees available, all served by an army of friendly super cool baristas – you’ll always feel welcome here and satisfy your sweet tooth with ease.

Just Grand!

Nestled on the far side of town, hidden inside the Grand Arcade – Just Grand! is worth a little walk to discover a place where you literally step back in step when you cross the threshold.

1950’s dressed waitresses with impeccable hair, winged eyeliner, and pastel dresses wait on you delightfully in a room full of trinkets and collectibles. Serving afternoon tea which starts at a little over £12 each and features scones, sandwiches, cake, and tea – it’s an affordable treat for those of you who would like to escape the modern world for a moment.

2 Oxford Place

Victoria the owner recognized a few years ago that there was a burgeoning number of people like her who loved cake but couldn’t tolerate gluten. Seeing a gap in the market, she set about planning 2 Oxford Place – a gluten free restaurant.

Situated just around the corner from Leeds Library it’s a cosy bolthole with a menu that specialises in giving customers gluten free versions of all of their favourite cakes and brasserie dishes. You can spend a few hours here indulging in a traditional afternoon tea without the worry of feeling awful afterward. We’re very excited about Victoria’s next few projects which will see her gluten free empire grow!
