It’s a well-known fact that we’re living in an age where the lines between work and our personal lives are becoming increasingly blurred. You may love your job but are you sometimes feeling stressed or strung out? At LITTLE we take the satisfaction of our clients very seriously, but we also value our staff and want them to be happy, healthy and productive. Here are our golden rules for avoiding stress at work…
Are you managing your time and communications effectively? There are various tools you can use personally, or as a business to make sure that you’re all communicating well – we love Skype and Slack. Additionally, project management tools such as Breeze which we use, are great for keeping an eye on progress on multiple projects, and sharing the workload.
Tests have proven that those of us who succumb to ‘telepressure’ – that is, the urge to respond immediately to work-related messages – are more likely to suffer from poor sleep, increased burnout, higher anxiety and health-related absence. Why not try a ‘power hour’ every morning to focus on brainstorming ideas, having an open discussion about some ideas you’ve been toying with?
Staying hydrated is hugely important – whether you’re client facing and running between important meetings, or task focused, drinking water and brain function are integrally linked. Lack of water to the brain can cause numerous symptoms including problems with focus, memory, brain fatigue and brain fog. It’s important that you also eat regularly and have little screen breaks to avoid eye fatigue.
The last thing that you may want to do at the end of a long day is to jump into a pool, or get on the track – but just 30 minutes of exercise, 3 times a week is just enough to not only keep your heart healthy, it also releases vital endorphins to keep you happy and productive – keeping you mentally fit. Get out there!
Most businesses in the digital age are 24/7 – but you don’t have to be. Organise your workforce, if someone needs to be on call evenings and weekends – take turns to be available. Make time to relax, enjoy reading a book, or seeing friends and family – as ultimately – isn’t that what we’re all working for anyway?
