Top trends tipped to transform marketing in 2017

With the rapid increase in the use of digital marketing, it’s no surprise that 2016 saw trends such as app marketing and wearable and mobile technologies dominating marketing strategies.

As we drive forward into 2017, digital marketing is again at the forefront, and we’ve taken a look into the hotly tipped trends set to take marketing strategies to the next level.

Immersive marketing

Users are demanding more immersive experiences within marketing campaigns. Although augmented reality and virtual reality offer platforms to increase user experience, they are not the only techniques. 360˚ videos are an up and coming technique that is set to take immersive marketing to the next level, they make users feel like they are living in the moment with a 360 degree view of any event or any place in the world, helping users to connect and share experiences. Other techniques that can be utilised for immersive marketing are live webinars and workshops.

Concise content

As we head into the New Year, the next generation, Generation Z will likely take greater precedence in regards to marketing. It is therefore, paramount to understand the needs and requirements of the new generation and act accordingly. Generation Z are already renowned for their short attention span, a key characteristic social media platform Snapchat has recognised, this app offers a more visual approach to conversing and connecting, with content disappearing after 24 hours.

Native advertising

Known as one of the oldest marketing techniques around, it might therefore be a surprise to see it hit the list of trends for 2017, however, native advertising is on the up and marketeers should take advantage. Ad blockers, reduced social media organic reach, and the decline in banner ads will also contribute to the increase of this marketing channel.

Native advertising is an effective way of gaining natural-looking visibility and attracting the consumers’ attention. It is also a possibility to see improved forms of native advertising offered by major publishers.

Wearable technology

As previously stated, wearable technology was a big hit throughout 2016 with the rise of products like the Apple Watch, and in 2017 it is set to grow exponentially. It has been suggested this type of technology will only improve, while prices will go down, meaning more and more people will embrace wearable technology.

Augmented Reality (AR)

During its peak, Pokemon go was earning around $10million a day. Although the apps initial excitement among fans has since died down, the app itself has sustained a successful platform where augmented reality can perform with incredible results. It will therefore, be no surprise when brand after brand begin to utilise this marketing technique throughout 2017, a definite one to watch.

Live video streaming

Social media is constantly growing and 2017 will be no different, the biggest trend to grow within 2017 across social media platforms is the use of live video streaming. Users are demanding more in-the-moment content, allowing them access into events or any part of the world they would normally not have access to. It is suggested that 2017 will be the year that live video streaming fully takes off, with brands and businesses alike utilising this marketing tool.
