LITTLE foodie favourites: Best Pizza in Leeds

On the blog today I need to make a LITTLE confession: I’m OBSESSED with Pizza, so today I’m going to divulge my top 3 spots for the best Pizza in Leeds…

Dough boys at Belgrave

Much has been written about the Pizza bar inside Belgrave, but words cannot quite describe my joy when they serve me up a slice.

They bake their pizzas in a speedy oven so you just roll up, select your slice and they’ll heat it up for you in a matter of minutes. They use a hand stretched, soft, thin based that is just crisp enough at the edges to give you some texture, a little tomato base, and a whole load of mozzarella cheese – they don’t worry about calories here! When I go I always opt for a ‘Sausage Fest’ which has caramelised onions, black pepper sausage and mascarpone, it’s meaty treat! However, if you’re veggie there’s plenty of options, and you can’t go wrong with a classic tomato, fresh basil and sea salt. The quality of the ingredients here shines through every time, and with half price slices Sunday to Thursday until 7pm (Fri and Sat until 5pm) you really can’t go wrong…

Buca di Pizza

Hidden away down a little doorway on Wellington st in Leeds, Buca di Pizza is one of those places you almost don’t want to tell people about in case it gets spoiled but I’m willing to share the pizza wealth…

Inside their doors you’ll find a cozy subterranean whitewashed cave with a beautifully stocked bar featuring a great selection of Italian beers, spirits and a stonking prosecco. Warning: you can easily have just one drink turn into several here.

I always start with their excellent dough balls – garlicky, and dripping in butter, they are the perfect start to your Friday night after work drinks (though maybe not very good if you’re wanting a kiss later). Their pizza menu is fantastic, I’d always recommend a classic ‘Bufatina’ – their rich tomato base, crispy dough and subtle seasoning lets the buffalo mozzarella and cherry tomatoes sing! However, if you’re more a meat fiend try their ‘Diavola’ which is a fiery delight of peppers, chillis and mouthwatering Nduja sausage…just make sure you leave some for me!

mean eyed cat bar leeds

Mean Eyed Cat Bar

‘You don’t get something for nothing’ right? Wrong. Our friends at Mean Eyed Cat will bring you FREE pizza, yes, FREE pizza with every drink from 5pm to 9pm. Not bad when you consider they’re usually £7.50, right? Get in!

Nestled on Merrion Street at the top end of Leeds city centre, this a little diamond of a pizza bar with super friendly staff, and killer tunes. Their ‘Chipotle Meatball’ is a tasty delight, a crisp light base is topped with a rich tomato sauce, mozzarella and moist, spicy meatballs. They also do one of the greatest veggie pizzas I have ever had – their ‘Butternut Squash and sun dried tomatoes’ beast will satisfy even the fussiest of animal lovers! Wash it all down with some craft beers by local brewer Northern Monk, or a vast selection of bespoke cocktails and you’ll start to wonder how you never ended up here before!

So there you have it, they are my top 3, stay tuned as we’ll give you our top coffee stops, lunch spots and more as recommended by the LITTLE team.
